The 'Hero' QB of the Cowboys has signed with the Patriots.

RISCO—Will Grier was a "hero for a moment" with the Dallas Cowboys in a preseason game at AT&T Stadium. In Week 4, he will return to Arlington as a new Patriots quarterback playing "Musical Chairs."

Mac Jones has improved as a starter in a pop-gun attack, but the quarterback carousel behind him is bewildering. Later Thursday, the Patriots added former Cowboys quarterback Grier off the Cincinnati Bengals' practice squad. 

That puts him ahead of Bailey Zappe and rookie Malik Cunningham. Grier attended Cowboys training camp, but Cooper Rush beat him out for the No. 2 spot behind Dak Prescott

Cincinnati was surprised by Thursday's move, since starter Joe Burrow has been limping through practice with a calf issue and Jake Browning is the only quarterback.

His release from Cincy's practice squad is the latest of the Patriots' frantic attempts to establish stability at the position before facing the Cowboys at AT&T Stadium on Oct. 1.
