The Beatles Are Overtaken by Taylor Swift in the UK Albums Chart Race

In a close battle for the top spot on the U.K. albums chart, Swifties defeated Beatlemania.

Taylor Swift's fourth rerecorded LP project, 1989 (Taylor's Version) (via EMI), debuted at No. 1 on the Official U.K.

Albums Chart for a third week running.Swift therefore prevents the Beatles from reaching a record-breaking 16th No. 1 with 1967–1970,

also referred to as the Blue album (both via Apple Corps), which reenters the chart at No. 2,

and 1962–1966, generally known as the Red album, which follows closely at No. 3.The Beatles were headed for a rare chart double,

having topped the midweek singles and albums charts in the United Kingdom with 1967–1970 and "Now And Then,"

respectively. When the Official Charts were released last Friday, Nov. 17, neither title came in first.

Coincidentally, 1962–1966 and 1967–1970 both reach their 1973 release-locked initial peaks again. The two LPs are combined into a boxed set.
