Due to the "horror, hate, violence, and terror that's going on in the world," Selena Gomez announced to her 430 million Instagram followers that she is taking a hiatus from social media.
The pop singer and "Only Murders in the Building" actor made no explicit mention of the Israel-Hamas conflict,
but it's obvious that her decision to stop using social media was influenced by tweets about the terrorist strike carried out by Hamas and the ensuing devastation in Gaza.
Gomez posted on her Instagram story, "I've been taking a break from social media because my heart breaks to see all of the horror, hate, violence, and terror that's going on in the world."
It is horrifying to see acts of hate crimes against any particular community, including torture and murder.
We must put an end to the violence permanently and safeguard EVERYONE, especially the young.
She went on, "I apologize if my words are insufficient for everyone or for a hashtag. I simply can't watch as innocent people suffer harm. That is the reason I feel ill. I desire to alter the course of history. A post won't, though. Regards, Selena.
Gracie Elliott Teefey, Gomez's younger sister, was featured in a second Instagram story post where she said, "Having a sister everyday has made me tragically sick." I would sacrifice everything for the sake of defenseless children.
