Someone's life has just changed in a million different ways. A Maine individual purchased the winning ticket ahead of Friday's $1.35 billion Mega Millions jackpot drawing, which authorities said was the second-largest in the game's history.

The winning lottery ticket matched all six numbers in the game, which hasn't had a jackpot winner since Oct. 14. The winning combinations were 30, 43, 45, 46, 61, and Mega Ball 14. One lucky Friday the 13th player outperformed the long odds of 1 in 302.6 million.

The winner and the location where the ticket was purchased have not been made public. Some state lottery administrators refuse to name winners in order to protect their privacy and security. According to lottery officials, this is Maine's first jackpot win.

The win ends a 26-drawing run. With no winner earlier this week, Friday’s top prize grew to surpass the $1.35 billion jackpot won in July 2022. It is still eclipsed by the $1.53 billion won in October 2018.

The greatest lottery prize paid in the United States was the result of a Powerball draw in November, which was worth $2.04 billion in cash. The winner on Friday will have the option of taking 30 annuity payments totaling $1.35 billion or a one-time cash payment of $724.6 million.

The jackpot now resets to a pot of $20 million for the next drawing, on Tuesday night.
