Keanu Reeves reportedly urged franchise producer Basil Iwanyk to let the character lie in peace at the close of filming for the action-packed John Wick: Chapter 4.
Iwanyk discusses the ending of the film - and the prospect of additional chapters - in an interview with Collider.
At the end of #4, Reeves' Wick fights Donnie Yen's Caine and Bill Skarsgard's Marquis on the steps of the Sacre Coeur in Paris.
To cut a long story short, Wick appears to die after the fight."After the second, third, and fourth film, it's so exhausting and it destroys Keanu,
physically and emotionally," Iwanyk added in the interview. "By the end, he's usually saying, 'I can't do this again,' and we agree.
He's a shadow of himself because he just goes for it. 'I want to be definitively killed at the end of this film,' he said. 'You know, we'll leave a 10% tiny opening,' we thought.
In a press release promoting the impending Wick spin-off The Continental, Iwanyk stated that Reeves and
Wick director Chad Stahelski are "getting together to figure out what that story is" for another potential Wick chapter.
