The hugely popular Yellowstone series from Paramount Network is now airing on CBS, giving television viewers a chance to see the Dutton family's current saga:
patriarch John Dutton III (Kevin Costner) and his children continue to own and run the Yellowstone Ranch despite threats to its survival from both the outside and, to some extent, from within.
There are five seasons of Dutton family drama to watch, as well as two prequel spinoffs, 1883 and 1923, that also delve into the Dutton family and its history.
We're deconstructing the Dutton family tree to help keep things clear for viewers who are unfamiliar with the show as well as those who are anxiously anticipating Yellowstone's return for its remaining Season 5 episodes and the second season of 1923.
Be aware that the information that follows will contain spoilers for the films Yellowstone, 1883, and 1923.
Three years into Yellowstone's run on Paramount Network, in 2021, 1883 made its Paramount+ premiere, but the show introduced the history of the Yellowstone Ranch and the Duttons who founded it:
James Dutton (Tim McGraw) and his wife Margaret (Faith Hill). Elsa, John, and Spencer were the three kids James and Margaret had.
The series premiered with its debut episode on CBS on Sunday nights. This results in a lot of moving elements and a lot of references to family and stories.
