Dax Hill (S) and Cameron Taylor-Britt (CB), two second-year pros, have each recorded two interceptions this season and are solidifying their roles as cornerstones for a defense that is undergoing a slight skill shift.
Hill was projected to replace one of Cincinnati's two safeties from the previous season who left via free agency. Hill was selected in the first round of the 2022 draft by Cincinnati.
The Michigan State product is third on the team, and early indications are encouraging. Kyle Shanahan will be using a pen to circle Nick Scott during this week's game planning.
Scott is the biggest risk for a Cincinnati defense that is stronger than the numbers suggest. In coverage, he has given up 14.5 yards per reception on 13 of 18 targets, along with one touchdown.
His 36.6 PFF coverage grade is by far the lowest on the squad. Veterans Chidobe Awuzie and nickel Mike Hilton, who are both ordinary to above average league starts, complete the trio of cornerbacks.
Brock Purdy has logged some practice but is still in the concussion protocol as of this writing. Although Sam Darnold would need to take the lead due to his uncertain availability,
